FAQ

Do you charge a fee for your services at CITAC?

The services offered through CITAC are sponsored by the Province of B.C. and are offered at no cost to you.

Do I have to be on Employment Insurance (EI) to access services at CITAC?

No, our services are for anyone who is unemployed or working less than 20 hours per week. CITAC is funded by the Province of BC and Central Interior Partners in Aboriginal Human Resource Development, Shuswap Training & Employment Program (STEP) and Interior Salish Employment & Training Society (ISETS), our Trade Consultants can also refer clients who are on a current EI claim or who have reachback status (have either had a regular EI claim in the last 3 years or a maternity or parental claim in the last 5 years) to other Service Canada funded services. These include the Skills Development Employment Benefits Program, the Targeted Wage Subsidy Program and the Self Employment Benefit Program. To find out what programs and services best meet your needs we encourage you to meet with one of our Trade Consultants.

Do I need to make an appointment?

We offer scheduled appointments or drop in services at CITAC. To meet with a trade consultant, the first step is to meet with an Employment Counselor in your area to develop a RTWAP. The Employment Counselor will refer to CITAC so that we can work with the client to develop a trade career action plan. Please call us at 250-434-9261 for more information.

What should I bring with me when I meet with a Trade Consultant?

If you have a resume, certifications, up-to-date tickets and any information regarding your Career Goal please bring it along. When you arrive, we will ask you to complete a short form that will provide us with additional information about your employment situation.

Will you find a job for me?

We can help you with all the aspects of finding work – from establishing a clear work goal and developing effective job search tools, and to promoting yourself to employers. We are not an employment placement agency so we do not contact employers on your behalf, however we can help you find job postings using the up-to-date information in our Resource Centre.

Can you help me write a resume?

Yes, we offer resume assistance in our Resource Centre. We also offer a short trade resume and cover letter writing workshop which is two hours long. We also offer a “Job Searching in the Trades” workshop which is 5 days of intensive job search strategies from LMI to approaching employers and resumes to interviews. Call or drop in for more info.

I am hoping to get some funding for training. Can you help?

Yes, if you are interested in exploring options for training we encourage you to meet with one of our Trade Consultants as soon as possible. We can determine whether you are eligible for funding and assist you with the application process.
